A meeting to discuss social innovation in the Baltimore area was held at the White House on June 6th. Several key leaders participated in the event, such as Robert J. Daniels, President of John Hopkins University. Other key leaders included those involved in non profit organizations, government, as well as policy makers.
Daniels discussed recent community efforts lead by John Hopkins, such as Hopkins Local and Blocal. Each of these initiatives are focused on expanding employment opportunities in the local area.
Daniels also stressed how easy it is to become complacent, and not push the change that is so much needed. Large institutions have the opportunity to create a sense of urgency and push forward to make a difference, it is just getting started that is sometimes the challenge. The time for change is now.
