It is no surprise that New York real estate has been quickly becoming more and more expensive. The company Airbnb, which allows home owners to rent out their homes, has been involved in a New York housing policy battle. Local politicians want to pass a bill which prevents Airbnb users from renting out their homes for less than thirty days at a time.
At this same time, Airbnb has partnered with Women in Need, a non-profit organization fighting homelessness, in order to provide resources to homeless New Yorkers. Airbnb has proposed to donate $100,000. Airbnb has also proposed to use staff members and volunteers in order to further support the partnership with Women in Need.
While Airbnb is undoubtedly doing good by donating to the homelessness cause, there is speculation that their motives are caused by the housing policy battle.
