The president of the MacArthur foundation defended the organization's philanthropic work with black and Latino groups, after being accused of spending only 1% annually on such organizations. Ms. Stasch stated that the foundation has given over a billion dollars in both grants and direct impact investments to both the black and Latino communities since the late 1970s, while at the same time loaning hundreds of millions of dollars for things such as projects in communities, small businesses and home mortages. She made a claim that most of these loans directly benefited black and Latino families.
The foundation has been investigating opportunities to locate programs and partnerships aimed at strengthening the communities and revamping the criminal justice system and strengthening areas that are at risk.
