'Our Cambridge' Transformation History Program

If you're in Cambridge, England, and you're in need of a roof over your head, there's a good chance you'll soon be living in one.

That's because the city's city council is planning to sell its old city hall and build a new one, the BBC reports.

The plan is to use the proceeds to tackle homelessness, poverty, and other social issues in the area, and to do so in a way that's environmentally friendly, socially beneficial, and financially viable.

"We need to be an organization that is fit for the future and operates within our budget," the city council says in a press release.

"We will continue our commitment to work with charities, businesses, and other public sector organizations, to identify additional ways to share resources and collaborate."

The council says it will sell the old building and use the proceeds to buy land for a new, purpose-built complex that will include housing, job training, affordable housing, and other amenities.

The project is expected to cost at least $15 million, and the council says it will take public input before making a decision.
