Thanks to a grant from Michigan's Pontiac Community Foundation, 10 local nonprofits will be able to feed hundreds of people this holiday season, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The grants, totaling $300,000, were awarded as part of Oakland County's Healthy Food Access Grant Program.
"What we quickly realized as we received applications is that many nonprofits began providing food to their community over the past couple of years as food shortages and inflation began to take a toll on our most vulnerable populations," says Dustin McClellan, founder and CEO of the foundation.
"This grant allowed us to hear their stories, see their needs, and support them as they make a very real impact on the lives of our neighbors every day," he adds in a statement on the foundation's website.
The recipients are: LGBTQ+ Community Center Baldwin House Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan Chaldean American Ladies Charity Hospitality House Jewish Family Services of Metro Detroit Metro Food Rescue Micah 6 Community Neighborhood House "The Pontiac Community Foundation knows the organizations in Oakland County that stepped up during the pandemic to help residents in need," says Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter.
