Nebraska residents who lost their jobs during the Great Recession can now get some help from the state to get back on their feet.

The Omaha World-Herald reports the North and South Omaha Recovery Grant Program is now accepting applications.

The program was part of the state's Economic Recovery Act passed in 2022, and groups had the option to submit proposals for funding to the state's Economic Recovery Special Committee.

The committee contracted with a Nebraska-based engineering and design firm to help coordinate the funds, which the Legislature amended this year to fund the grants with state money as opposed to federal aid, per WOWT.

To be eligible for the forthcoming grant program, the proposal must be named in the plan issued in January.Proposals named in that plan will be considered under eight categories the Nebraska Department of Economic Development designated:Recovery Assistance Program for Immediate Distribution Business SupportSports and TourismRecovery Housing and InnovationArtsSmall/EntrepreneurshipPlacemaking InfrastructureYouth, Talent, and Workforce Development Interested parties can check out the program's webpage here.
