When Radhe and Krishna Gupta started the Rohit Group of Companies in Edmonton, Alberta, in the early '80s, they didn't have much in the way of philanthropic inclinations.
But over the years, the couple and their company have donated tens of thousands of dollars to various community organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Alberta, the Canadian Red Cross, and more, the CBC reports.
"From the outset, I've believed in the power of couragethe courage to take risks, to embrace innovation, and to envision spaces that go beyond the ordinary," Krishna Gupta says.
"This award reminds me that stepping outside of the ordinary is the way to go."
The couple was recently inducted into the Building Industry and Land Development Alberta Association's Volunteer Hall of Fame for their philanthropic efforts.
"We have our housing awards on the Saturday night, but we think that it is equally important to have a night to recognize those industry volunteers and those leaders of industry that are giving back to their communities," says Scott Fash, executive director of BILD Alberta.
"What Krishne and Radhe have built with Rohit and what they have given back to the community, well, it's a tremendous story," Fash says.
