Michigan is aiming to be a "beacon of opportunity and well-being" by 2050, according to its "Michigan Moonshot"but it's going to have to do so without the help of Donald Trump.

In an op-ed for the Detroit Free Press, the president and CEO of Samaritas, a nonprofit that helps refugees and others in need, says Trump's proposed ban on travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran and Syria, is just one component of a "sweeping" plan to make Michigan "a beacon of opportunity and well-being, a rising state that not only attracts but nurtures and retains a thriving population," per MLive.com.

Trump's travel banwhich also applies to visitors from Cuba, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, per the New York Timesis just one component of a plan to make Michigan a "land of opportunity and well-being" for people from all over the world, per the Free Press.

The plan also includes expanding affordable housing, creating a skilled labor force, and improving health care.
