Kathy Hochul says the state is "investing in New York's downtowns," and one Long Island town is one of those downtowns.
The New York Forward Program has awarded the village of Mineola $4,500, which will be used to improve sidewalks, boost public spaces, and increase lighting, among other things, the New York Daily News reports.
"With this funding, Smithtown-Kings Park, Brookhaven-North Bellport, and Mineola will have the tools they need to reimagine their downtowns to enhance the quality of life for residents, draw visitors, and spur economic opportunity throughout their communities," Hochul, a Democrat, said in a press release.
Mineola Mayor Paul Pereira, who was elected in 2022, said the grant will help the village "serve as an example to other communities as to how you can both meet housing demands on Long Island while still protecting a suburban quality of life."
