Developer Pleads with Oro-Medonte to Support Medical Innovation Park

A Canadian developer wants an Ontario council to reverse its decision to recommend the revocation of a zoning order that would speed up the construction of a medical innovation park, the Toronto Star reports.

"We've been a flagship company for this township for decades and provide high-paying, meaningful jobs to our residents in the surrounding area," David Yeaman, president of Molded Precision Components, told the Oro-Medonte council last week.

"There is only harm that can be done if this is revoked and nothing positive comes from it."

Yeaman's company has been trying to build the park between Barrie and Orillia for three years.

He says current economic conditionsincluding rising interest rates, supply shortages, labor shortages, threats of war in Eurasia, and economic uncertaintyhave slowed down the project.

But the township's planning services manager says no applications have been received for the park, nor have any correspondence from the landowner, leading staff to conclude the project "is not progressing in an expedient manner as intended through the approval of the site-specific [zoning order]."

The council voted last week to send the matter to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
