The philanthropic branch of the Grammy Awards, MusiCares presents the honor to a music star each year.
"The men and women who have received this honor before me are like a Mount Rushmore of the music biz," said Bon Jovi, who founded the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation and the JBJ Soul Kitchens nearly 20 years ago to provide food, affordable housing, and job training programs in the US.
Other attendees at Friday's event included Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney.
