A Vermont bank has donated more than half a million dollars to more than 500 nonprofits in its home state and New York state, the AP reports.
According to Vermont Business Magazine, more than $642,000 was donated by Berkshire Bank in the fourth quarter of last year.
"We are proud to contribute to those in need and help organizations providing vital services to the communities that Berkshire Bank serves," says Lori Gazzillo Kiely, the bank's director of the Berkshire Bank Foundation.
The grants were awarded in the areas of health and wellness, housing, food insecurity, and economic enrichment.
"When we eventually opened the doors to our new facility, the foundation immediately stepped forward to support a nascent program aimed at helping high school students pursue careers in technical fields," Ben Sosne, executive director of the Berkshire Innovation Center, tells the magazine.
"The foundation's continued support has allowed that program to blossom into a cornerstone of a comprehensive STEM education platform, one that has impacted the lives of young people throughout our region."
