Sccf Announces Philanthropy Internship Grants

The South Cumberland Community Fund has awarded $210,000 in grants to 11 nonprofit organizations in central Virginia, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

According to a press release, the funds were awarded through the fund's Philanthropy Internship Program, a partnership between the Community Fund and the University of the South.

The Internship Program teaches college students about philanthropy and helps them apply those lessons to their own grant-making, the Times-Dispatch reports.

This year's interns included Lily Brady, Kendall Buck, Adriana Turner, Catherine Belser, and Emma Grace Hendrickson.

Among the projects that received a grant from the fund: betterFi: $1,680 to add an online borrower portal to their new loan platform, which will allow borrowers to independently keep track of their loan data.

Grundy County Food Bank: $5,000 to purchase stainless steel tables for the distribution of groceries.Folks at Home: $561 project to implement a lending library that will provide screenings on a variety of preventive health topics.

Mountain Goat Trail Alliance: $3,009 to install cameras along the Mountain Goat Trail in Tracy City and Monteagle.

Monteagle Elementary School: $3,123 to build a third homes in the area to encourage physical education for children of all levels.
