Northern Trust employees gave more than 53,000 hours of their time to charity in 2023, a record for the company and one that "shows one measure of how important our communities are to our company," Shana Hayes, the company's chief social impact officer, says in a press release.
The company's 2023 Philanthropic Impact Report also reveals that over the past decade, Northern Trust has donated more than $170 million to non-profit organizations working to provide food security, affordable housing, accessible health care, and quality education, per NBC Chicago.
Hayes says the record-setting year for volunteering came during Northern Trust's global month of service in October, during which employees gave nearly 53,000 hours to more than 1,700 organizations.
"Our employees logged record-breaking level of volunteerism in 2023, which shows one measure of how important our communities are to our company," Hayes says in the press release.
The report also notes that in Chicago, Northern Trust's headquarters, the company launched its first-ever Northern Trust Anchor Award to "build the capacity of highly effective nonprofit organizations."
