The Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation has awarded $100,000 in grants to 12 community organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area to help people deal with rising costs of living and increasing economic uncertainty, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

According to a press release, economic instability and inflation have led to job losses, reduced working hours, and increased job insecurity for low-income workers in the area.

"Additionally, income disparities continue to grow for marginalized communities," the press release states.

"Access to resources that promote economic security, such as quality education, affordable housing and healthcare, continues to be a struggle."

The grants, awarded in the spring of 2024, will help people with basic needs, including food, housing, and health care.

"The need for the hot meals, warm showers, and laundry services that Hope's Corner provides has been steadily increasing," John Riemenschnitter, president of grant recipient Hope's Corner, tells the Mercury News.

"Thanks in part to the generous support of LAMVCF, we are not only able to keep up with the growing demand, but we are also able to continue to expand our services."
