Social Bite a company based in Edinburgh, Scotland is attempting a crowdfunding effort to raise £500,000. The money is going to be used to create a housing community for homeless people for about 12-15 month periods. The community is looking to house about 20 people at a time.
The plan is to provide an affordable answer for people to find a path out of homelessness. The village units would cost about £30,000 each. They're semi-sustainable with gardens, chicken coups, and workshops.
The village is aiming to be the model for future charities to adopt in the future. The community aims to also be an affordable answer to the housing crisis. One that will be a logical reprieve for Edinburgh Council tax payers.
