The Oglala Sioux Tribe located within southwestern South Dakota is suffering from a significant amount of social issues. However, a new generation of tribe members are doing everything they can to revive not only the tribe, but the community and the lands they live on as well.
Among the problems being faced are unemployment, crime, poverty, high suicide rates, and a severe lack of access to things like medical care. In order to counteract these issues, the young tribes-people have formed a coalition, created plans; and sought out assistance from the federal government. Over the span of only a few years, they have already moved forward on their plans and have begun groundbreaking work on many endeavors to directly address the problems. Creating jobs, and affordable places to live.
