Rural Minnesota communities have been awarded grants by the Blandin Foundation. A total of 110 grants totaling $2,404,200, including 98 that were less than $50,000 each, were approved by trustees. The foundation's areas of focus are to expand opportunities and to invest in leaders.
Two of the recipients of the grant are the University of Minnesota's North Central Research and Outreach Center in Grand Rapids which received an amount of $235,000 to fund the forestry Generic Environmental Impact Statement (GEIS) and the Project Care to support medical care for local patients who are uninsured or under-insured.
