Newark eyeing state Homekey grant to convert hotel to housing for homeless.

The city is applying for $39 million through California's Project Homekey.

Two of the hotel suites would be converted for a manager's unit and a community services office.

123 suites will be converted to apartments for the residents, city reports say.

The Newark City Council on Thursday is set to consider the application.
