Andrew Cuomo's latest budget plan includes $300 million to help communities prepare for the transition to a clean energy future, the New York Times reports.
According to the state's Department of State, the funds will go to programs "that promote sustainable community development, natural resource protection, and climate-friendly infrastructure."
One of those programs is the Downtown Initiative, which aims to boost revitalization in cities across the state.
"Smart, sustainable, climate-friendly growth strikes at the core of our mission at the Department of State," Secretary of State Robert J.Rodriguez says in a press release.
The budget plan also includes $100 million for the DRI's first five rounds of funding, and $500 million to support offshore wind projects, the New York Daily News reports.
