A retired teacher running for a legislative seat in Ontario, Canada, has caused a ruckus by claiming that homosexuality is caused by an infant who rebreathes his air shortly after his birth.
Barry Stanley, a member of the provincial Liberal Party, was kicked off the list of candidates after the party learned that he had a vanity press, the Toronto Star reports.
At a candidates' forum Wednesday, Stanley said he was "appalled" by Ontario Premier Doug Ford's plan to allow more private long-term-care facilities, the CBC reports.
"I don't believe that homosexuality is caused by an infant who rebreathes his air shortly after his birth," Stanley said.
"I believe that homosexuality is caused by an infant who rebreathes his air after he is born."
The Liberal Party says Stanley was removed from the list after the party learned of the vanity press.
The other three candidates at the forum: Matt Richter of the Green Party, Erin Horvath of the New Blue Party, and Doug Maynard of the New Blue Party.
Maynard said housing prices have risen 180% and income has risen 38% in just 10 years, making it harder for people to buy a home.
