Galesburg, Ill., is getting a major facelift thanks to a $2 million grant from the state.
The Chicago Tribune reports on the project, which will see a street, sidewalk, and curbing reconstructed along Simmons Street between Prairie Street and Kellogg Street, as well as new lighting and landscaping.
It's part of the Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets Capital program, which awarded $106 million to 50 commercial corridors and main streets throughout the state.
"The city is thrilled to be selected for a project which renovates one of the free downtown parking lots, as well as enhances the walkability of downtown with new sidewalks and lighting," says interim city manager Wayne Carl.
The project is expected to be completed in 2024.
