If you live in Massachusetts and own an electric car, you'll soon be able to plug it in for free in Revere, Winthrop, and Chelsea.
Three cities in the Boston area Revere, Winthrop, and Chelseahave each received a $25,000 grant from the state's Department of Environmental Protection to set up charging stations for electric cars and public transportation, reports the Boston Globe.
The charging stations, which will be paid for with a fee on top of the cost of the vehicles, are designed to make public transportation and electric cars more affordable for residents.
"We're grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration, Chelsea City Council, and our partners in Revere and Winthrop for the opportunity to create a model system that works for residents," says Chelsea's director of housing and community development.
Revere's chief financial officer says the city has been charging electric vehicle charging stations free of charge, but as the number of stations and vehicles increases, the city may look to collect some revenue from the stations to help pay for their upkeep.
