The Chicago Monuments Project is a five-year, $250 million project meant to "reimagine and rebuild commemorative spaces and the way history is told in the United States," per the project's website.
The latest round of funding, announced Tuesday, will fund eight new monuments in the city, including the Chicago Torture Justice Memorial, the Chicago Tribune reports.
"Chicago's monuments and memorials are more than just public artthey speak directly to the values, history, and vision of our great city," Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson says in a press release.
