Two high school students in Scotland have won a competition to design a new $28 million complex-needs facility for disabled people, the Guardian reports.
The winners of the "Our Inclusive Community Project" design challenge were Isla Bethune and Tassi Forbes of Bertha Park High School in Perth.
"I was blown away by the quality of submissions," says architect George Clarke.
"Each was incredibly well thought out and took into account the varied and complex needs of those who will use the spaces."
The winning designs include a new primary school, 60 self-contained studio apartments for people with complex needs, and energy-efficient housing.
The project is being funded by a charity called Capability Scotland.
"Seeing the outstanding and forward-thinking concepts that have been created by these young people is incredibleespecially from a design perspective and through many different guises, they have encapsulated what inclusive living truly means," says the lead architect.
