If you're looking for a cheap way to spice up your Labor Day weekend, head to one of New York City's dozens of affordable housing projects.
The affordable-housing portion of the city's tax code is one of the lowest in the nation, according to data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and many of the projects are in low- or moderate-income areas, the New York Daily News reports.
"It's a great time of year to be in the city," says a rep for the affordable-housing department.
"There are a lot of great places to live, a lot of great things to do, and it's a great time of year to be in the city."
The projects include low-income housing in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Upper East Side, as well as affordable housing in parts of the Bronx and Washington, DC, the Daily News notes.
