The UN is holding a high-level forum on sustainable development this week, and a new report finds that the world is on track to hit a number of key goals by 2030.

Specifically, the report finds that by 2030, renewable energy will make up 60% of power generation, up from the current 40%, reports the New York Times.

(See the full report here.) In fact, the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change told the forum that fossil fuels are the primary driver of climate change, but wind and solar energy infrastructure are "now cheaper to build than fossil-fuel power plants in 85 cents per gallon of the world""a zero-emission energy supply by mid-century is technically within reach," he said.

The report also finds that by 2030, the world will need to generate 19% of its energy from renewable sources, up from the current 14%.

The forum is focusing on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, which include clean water, sanitation, affordable and clean energy, affordable housing, sustainable cities, and communities, and partnerships for the goals.
