Whatcom County, Wash., has received more than $80,000 in grants to help people with disabilities, mental illness, food access, and affordable housing, the Bellingham Herald reports.
The grants from the First Fed Foundation, a regional charitable corporation, are intended to help "low-to-moderate income, disadvantaged, and marginalized people," according to a press release.
The Max Higbee Center received $5,000 for staffing and program support for teens and adults living with developmental disabilities, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Whatcom County received $5,000 for community outreach to engage members of the Latino community with mental wellness initiatives, and Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County received $50,000 for the first eight townhomes in Mateo Meadows, a townhome community in Everson.
