If you're in Bedford, Va., and want to get to work, school, the grocery store, or even your doctor's office, you're going to want to get on the Otter Bus.
That's because the town has been awarded $175,560 from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation to expand the free, one-hour bus service from 9am to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, the Roanoke Times reports.
The grant will allow the Otter Bus to add Mondays as a fourth day to its three-day schedule, which was already in place, per a release from the Bedford Community Health Foundation.
"We want every citizen to be able to access all that our town has to offer," says the foundation's executive director, enny Huff.
The release notes that 32% of riders are from subsidized housing, 43% are from grocery, pharmacy, and shopping areas, and 10% go to health and wellness stops, including Bedford Memorial Hospital, mental health providers, and the Bedford Area YMCA.
The bus continues to be free to riders.
