There's a new bipartisan bill in the Senate that aims to boost the timber industry in rural America.
The Timber Innovation for Building Rural Communities Act, co-sponsored by Republican Sen.
Mike Crapo of Idaho, Democratic Sen.
Ron Wyden of Oregon, and Democratic Rep.
Andrea Salinas of Oregon, would expand and strengthen the Wood Innovation Grant Program to fund programs that support the "critical elements of designing and building with wood, including traditional wood products, mass timber, and other advanced wood products," per the National Alliance of Forest Owners.
It also would expand the Wood Innovation Grant Program to fund education grants to train the next generation of engineers and architects in wood and mass timber construction, the expansion of the Wood Innovation Grant program, and the piloting of American-grown wood products in rural infrastructure projects, such as affordable, modular housing, per the Idaho Statesman.
"This legislation will fuel jobs and research good for both consumers and industry," says Crapo.
