If you've ever wondered what it's like to live in a tiny apartment in India, well, you're in luck.

Quartz reports a team of researchers from the UK's University of South Wales and India's T-Hub are working on a prototype of "smart" housing that uses artificial intelligence to figure out how much energy is used in a given day and then bill the user for that usage.

The idea is to cut down on energy costs and improve the health of residents, according to a press release from T-Hub.

The prototype is currently being tested in a small apartment in New Delhi and is expected to be ready for market by the end of the year.

It's not the first time T-Hub has worked with Wales' Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, according to the press release.

The T-Hub has also worked with a Welsh university on a similar project, according to Quartz.

"Promoting regional innovation is essential for fostering improvements to care and economic growth," T-Hub's executive director says.

"Today provided a great opportunity for us to come together to gain valuable knowledge, exchange ideas, and find inspiration to foster innovation, sustainability, and economic development in our respective regions."
