An Indiana man who believes in "living a life of service" has been awarded the state's top philanthropy award.
Bernie Niehaus, chairman and retired CEO of Niehaus Lumber, received the Indiana Philanthropy Award for his "immense contributions to philanthropy and community development," the Association of Fundraising Professionals a Indiana Chapter said in a press release.
Niehaus, a Vincennes University graduate, has given more than $1 million to causes including the Indiana Military Museum, the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy, Saint Meinrad Archabbey and Seminary, the Knox County Community Development Corp., and Habitat for Humanity, according to the release.
"The Indiana Philanthropy Award, a testament to Niehaus's contributions, stands as a symbol of recognition for his tireless efforts and commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others," the AFP-IC said.
