The town of Telluride, Colo., is putting its money where its mouth is.

The Telluride Foundation has awarded 29 community grants totaling $1.1 million to organizations in the area, including the Ouray Ice Park, which will use the funds to develop a new water source on Canyon Creek, the Daily Planet reports.

"It's a game changer for us," says Peter O'Neil, executive director of the ice park.

"We have access to the water now, but we had no way of getting the water from the bottom park up top of the park," he says.

"So Our Water Our Future is for the infrastructure that's going to allow us to switch over from the city water tanks and have our own supply of water tanks."

The grants, which range from $500 to $157,500, represent a diverse group of community organizations, including early childhood centers, watershed groups, winter sports programs, medical clinics, and arts programming.

"It's a difficult decision for the grants committee, but we're just excited to be able to support our nonprofit partners and the fantastic work that they do," April Montgomery, vice president of programs at the Telluride Foundation, tells the Daily Planet.
