A music professor in Portland, Ore., is one of 10 finalists for a Grammy Award that will honor her with a $10,000 honorarium and a grant to help her school's music program.
Coty Raven Morris, an assistant professor of choir, music education, and social justice at Portland State University, is a founder of Being Human Together, a community that aims to "normalize communication about challenging topics such as mental health and systemic oppression, through music and conversation," per a press release.
The other nine finalists will be announced on Feb.
4 and will be publicly recognized before the Grammys on Feb.

The winner will receive the honorarium and a matching grant for their institution.
"She is a wellspring of joy and acceptance, inspiring individuals and groups from all ages and walks of life to embrace their intrinsic value and see themselves as artists no matter their backgrounds," says the dean of the College of the Arts at PSU.

3 Social Enterprises Earn Honors at Social Enterprise Award
Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society.
