The Mary Gale Foundation was established in 1876 to help " needy and aged women over the age of 65 in the City of Manchester, New Hampshire, and in the Greater Manchester, New Hampshire, area, with housing and in-home services, including transportation, deliveries, in-home nursing care, and home visits," per the foundation's website.
Now, more than 140 years later, the foundation is giving away $10 million to help low-income women age 65 and older in the area, the New York Times reports.
The Mary Gale Foundation's 2024 Request for Proposals, which can be found here, is open to nonprofits in the Greater Manchester area.
"Mary Gale's generosity and foresight have provided a wonderful resource that supports the needs of this group of individuals in the Greater Manchester community," says Alison Perrella, board chair for the Mary Gale Foundation.
"We encourage all nonprofits who serve this population to apply."
