When a Christian college in the Philippines was looking for new books to donate to its public schools, it reached out to a Christian college in the US.
The result: 1,688 books, worth about $17,000, for two elementary schools, the Telegraph reports.
Central University of the Philippines in Manila teamed up with Golden Values School, the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction, and C&E Publishing House to distribute the books, according to a university press release.
A "creative storyteller," Genevieve Balance Kupang, shared stories and illustrated them with students and their parents, the release notes.
"This significant donation not only promotes literacy but also supports [the] Department of Education's initiatives as Bagnen and Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Time in these two public schools," the press release says.

Social Enterprise Is Re-Housing Unwanted Furniture
Weston Mill-based social enterprise Surplus Rescue CIC (Community Interest Company) recycles and finds homes for unwanted furniture. To date, it has received “extensive amounts” of quality second-hand furniture including desks, pedestals, cupboards and office chairs from a former local authority office equipment – and wants to find them a good home.
