Menomonie, Wis., is known for its scenic landscapes and small-town charm, so it was only a matter of time before a major public art project was added to the mix.
The Dunn County Historical Society and University of Wisconsin-Stout announced this week that they've teamed up to create "Murals in Menomonie," a five-day festival in 2026 during which visiting muralists will spend five days painting murals around the town, the Dunn County News reports.
The project is being put together by the Community Foundation of Dunn County, the Dunn County Historical Society, the City of Menomonie, Downtown Menomonie, Explore Menomonie, and a local business.
The Walldogs, an international collective of muralists, will be among the artists working on the murals, which will commemorate the town's history.
"The artists, while here, need to be supported, (so this will be a) huge fundraiser to raise money needed to cover their housing, food, and supplies," Becca Schoenborn, executive director of Downtown Menomonie, tells the News.
The group has completed some 30 murals across the US, including one in Chippewa Falls, Wis., in 2002.
