A new survey of mayors in 28 European countries finds that climate change and sustainable mobility are two of the biggest issues facing them in the years ahead, the Local reports.
According to Eurocities, the survey of 92 mayors found that climate change was the top concern for 71% of them, and sustainable mobility was second at 28%.
Social inclusion and equity was third at 31%, and access to affordable and social housing was fourth at 30%.
"Unlike many populist politicians, mayors do not oppose ecological and social needs," Eurocities Secretary General Andr ?'Sobczak says.
"Rather, they aim to work simultaneously on both challenges to develop a just transition where no one is left behind."
Sobczak says many cities are "struggling to meet the housing needs of the most vulnerable people" and that "if this situation does not improve, we risk a huge backlash among citizens."
