$450000 Investment From the Keybank Foundation To Help Fight Food Insecurity in East Buffalo

More than one in 10 people in Buffalo, New York, live in food insecurity, according to the USDA.

The problem is especially bad in East Buffalo, where the annual KeyBank Delavan-Grider Farmers Market opens its third season on Thursday and a $450,000 investment from the KeyBank Foundation will help fight food insecurity, the Buffalo News reports.

The investment will go to Buffalo Go Green, which provides low-income individuals and families with fresh produce throughout the year, and the Independent Health Foundation, which runs a nutrition education program for families living in underserved communities.

"We've heard time and again from our participants that the Healthy Options at Home program helps families feel more confident about cooking healthy meals on a budget," KeyBank Buffalo Market President Michael McMahon says in a press release.

"They learn new skills together while trying out recipes that are tasty, healthy, and inexpensive to make, setting the stage for family dinners that nourish bodies and nurture relationships."
