Florida Studio Theatre has raised $41 million of the $46 million it needs for a new arts plaza that will include three theaters, a parking garage, actor housing, and rental units for other artists, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports.
But that's not all.
Ed and Susan Maier have set up a one-to-one matching fund of $4 million to raise enough money to name the plaza for Dennis and Graci McGillicuddy, longtime supporters of the theater.
The Maiers had previously committed $2 million to the project and will have a cabaret theater named for them.
"From the moment they walked in with a leadership gift, they were deeply engaged deeply engaged and sought to understand our insightful goals," says the theater's director.
Florida Gov.
Ron DeSantis vetoed $1 million in state funds for the project, but the theater says it will still get the necessary funds to name the plaza after the McGillicuddys.
