The Veteran's Housing Grants Program (VHGP), run by the Home Depot Foundation, has awarded over $80 million in grants to nonprofit organizations. The money goes to support development and repair of veterans' housing and has helped with more than 17,000 units of veteran housing.
The grants are primarily intended for repairs of single-family homes that are part of permanent programs run by the nonprofit organizations that the VHGP works with. In addition, multifamily, permanent supportive housing and transitional housing are included. Grants are for the costs of physical construction or repair.
Proposals for grants are due in June and decisions on which grants to make will be determined in December, with grants typically ranging from $100,000 to $500,000.
The nonprofit partners that work with the VHGP must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits, in good standing with the IRS for five years, and meet other veteran-specific requirements at minimum.
