City Council, Westerner Park and Rdp Issue Statements on Passing of Philanthropist and ...

One of Canada's most prominent business leaders has died at the age of 84.

Jack Donald, who co-founded a Canadian oil and gas company with his wife in the 1950s, died Thursday in his sleep at his home in Red Deer, Alberta, the CBC reports.

According to a statement from Red Deer Polytechnic, Donald "leaves behind a legacy of community spirit, business brilliance, leadership, philanthropy, and unwavering volunteerism that will resonate throughout Central Alberta for generations."

Donald also served on the Red Deer College Board of Governors from 1979 to 1982, and was a member of the volunteer campaign cabinet for the college's Building Communities Through Learning Campaign from 2006 to 2010.

"A true entrepreneurial spirit, Jack spent countless hours engaging with our students and faculty, sharing his wisdom as both a mentor and guest speaker," says a statement from Red Deer Polytechnic.

Donald and his wife, Joan, were active supporters of Red Deer Polytechnic, donating to the school's school of business, the library, and the Westerner Park administration building, among other things.

"We have continued to invest in Red Deer Polytechnic, because we believe in empowering local learners to give them the opportunities they need to be successful in their fields of health and wellness," says a statement from Red Deer College.
